Inverness apprentice takes top spot in Scottish Plumbing Apprentice of the Year’s renewable competition

An Inverness plumbing apprentice has won top prize in a Scotland-wide competition.
Jude MacAskill won the renewable category of the Scottish Plumbing Apprentice of the Year (SPAY) competition.
Jude, a second-year plumbing and heating apprentice, balances his studies at Inverness College, University of Highlands and Islands, with his work at R I Cruden.
He outperformed eight other category competitors in the competition held at South Lanarkshire College.

Fiona Hodgson, chief executive of the Scottish and Northern Ireland Plumbing Employers Federation (SNIPEF), congratulated Jude on his win.
“His tireless efforts and dedication are truly commendable,” she said.
“Both Inverness College UHI and R I Cruden Ltd deserve high praise for their roles in nurturing such exceptional talent within our modern apprenticeship programme.”
Highlighting the broader implications of this success, she continued: "Jude’s triumph not only celebrates his individual skill but also underscores the critical importance of our apprenticeship in promoting excellence across the plumbing and heating profession.
“These future professionals are essential for advancing our profession and pivotal in supporting Scotland’s transition towards innovative, low-carbon heating systems like heat pumps, aligning with our national environmental ambitions.”
Ben MacDonald, of GM Boyd BPH Services and a fellow student at Inverness College UHI, also made a notable mark in this year's competition by securing third place in the copper category.
