A century of plumbing know-how has been honoured with a civic dinner in Inverness.

Members of the Inverness and Northern District Master Plumbers' Association were the guests at the event, marking the 100th anniversary of the Scottish and Northern Ireland Plumbing Employers’ Federation (SNIPEF) which it helped to create.

Held at Inverness Town House the dinner celebrated a century of achievements, innovation, and collaborative spirit within the nation’s plumbing and heating profession.

SNIPEF President George Baxter – the 99th holder of the title –co-hosted the event, the first president from Inverness since 1993, with 60 distinguished guests, including 10 past presidents of SNIPEF.

Inverness councillors, and representatives from across the plumbing and heating profession, attended.

Speaking at the event, Mr Baxter said: "I am very grateful to the city of Inverness for honouring us with a civic dinner, commemorating and reflecting on the rich and successful history of SNIPEF while also heralding a future filled with opportunities.

"The past 100 years stand as a testament to SNIPEF’s resilience, innovation, and commitment."

He added: "The successful collaboration between Scotland’s local plumbing associations that marked its past success will undoubtedly pave our way to a future where the plumbing profession thrives and helps the nation in its low-carbon ambitions.

"I sincerely thank the provost, Glynis Campbell Sinclair, and the city of Inverness for this Civic Dinner, a gesture that symbolises our common purpose and aspirations.”

The Inverness and Northern District Master Plumbers' Association was founded in 1914 and was one of the seven Scottish plumbing associations that came together to approve SNIPEF's creation in 1923.

The provost’s granting of a prestigious civic dinner, it said, underscores the value and respect for the plumbing and heating profession and its essential role in public health, safety, and economic growth.

SNIPEF is the trade association for plumbing and heating businesses based in Scotland and Northern Ireland.

It has just over 750 member firms employing more than 3500 plumbers.

Since its establishment, SNIPEF has been providing professional and practical assistance to plumbing and heating businesses in both jurisdictions.

It continues to meet member needs by developing relevant and practical services.
