JP at the Castle has ceased trading due to "circumstances beyond" its control, according to a social media post.

Inverness BID director Lorraine Bremner McBride said: "We are extremely sorry to see JP at the Castle close.

"The unit has been an icon and staple of Castle Street for many decades and over many years has been held in high regard by the many repeat and visiting patrons both under the previous and newer owners meaning it will be a big loss to our area.

"Our thoughts are with the owners and staff."

She added: "In the wider context we do urgently need to see more pro-business support measures materialise both locally and nationally to help our city centre enterprises recover, navigate and ultimately to grow in these particularly challenging economic times.

"It remains more important than ever that if able, we choose to actively support locally based businesses wherever possible as when doors close it can be too late."
