A new Indian restaurant and takeaway will soon take over the kitchen at a popular Hilton sports bar and restaurant.

Last month, the venue had announced it would close its kitchen after the closure of Brambles catering company, which served the food at Dows.

Now, they are welcoming the new venture Nippy Naga, a new family business run by Tahmina Uddin and her husband Ashiqur Rahman – better known as Rana, who is also chef at the Mangrove on Academy Street.

This is the first time the young family runs their own restaurant and when sharing the news they said they were excited to start this new venture.

The restaurant will first open as a takeaway – with Dows' customers being able to take the food to their tables – but plans are to then set up as a restaurant in the

Nippy Naga will serve Indian food along with tasty burgers, loaded fries and munchie boxes.

Tahmina's mother, Christina Uddin – owner of the Bonnie Bhaji family in Invergordon and who is helping the couple starting up the business – said the response from the community was very positive.

"We are all very excited, " she said. "Tahmina and Rana worked so hard over the past years and we are so happy that they are almost ready to launch Nippy Naga. I think they'll do very well!

"We wanted a quirky and fun name for it, where Scottish and Bangladeshi culture meet (Naga is a type of chilli).

"I think they'll do well as along with Indian dishes they will have burgers, loaded chips and other food that people can enjoy in a sports bar. Then they will build on the menu with time.

"All the staff at Dows have been such an excellent support to us in getting our little venture off the ground and we can’t thank them all enough for all of their help."

They hope to serve their first customers in around four to five weeks time.

Staff at Dows said they were excited to welcome the new catering in their kitchen and happy to offer their customers something different.
