A Highland stalwart was crowned business leader of the year at an annual awards ceremony.

Alasdair Ferguson picked up the trophy for his commitment to entrepreneurship in the region, at the Highland Business Awards 2023.

Mr Ferguson is the leader of Ferguson Transport & Shipping and Kishorn Port Limited. The judges of the Awards said that he stood out as a leader, who's been responsible for driving rapid growth at these companies, which are both relied on by many other businesses and provide vital services across the Highlands.

The judges also said Mr Ferguson has an enviable awareness of current trends, and there is a masterplan for future growth. Alongside this he supports a large number of community organisations and causes and is a respected member of the Highland business community.

On receiving his award, Mr Ferguson said: "Thank you very much, I'm absolutely delighted to accept this on behalf of myself, the co-directors and the team. I also want to congratulate the other nominees, and say a big thank you to the sponsors.

"I'm delighted our founding member of our company, my mum, started the business in 1959. We are now in the third and fourth generation. I'm absolutely delighted, and would like to thank you all for this award."
