A petition has been launched to urge the Highland Council to call for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza.

The Israel-Hamas war is set to be discussed at tomorrow's Highland Council meeting, however, the campaign group Highland-Palestine wants to amend the wording in the motion.

A spokesperson for Highland Palestine said: "At the moment the Highland Council are voting on a motion to call for a ceasefire at the earliest opportunity. However, we want them to call for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza and the provision of humanitarian aid on the scale recommended by international aid agencies to avert the man-made famine and pandemic now engulfing the people of Gaza."

The Highland-Palestine campaign group will be lobbying councillors before the meeting at Highland Council headquarters tomorrow morning.

So far, the petition has over 400 signatures.
