Another of the Highlands' heroic police dogs has been praised after playing a key role in helping to find a missing person in Inverness.

Fergie was singled out for praise by Police Scotland on its Police Scotland Dogs Twitter account on Thursday after tracking a missing woman through woods on Wednesday night.

"A great team effort by PD Fergie, her handler and Police Scotland Highlands and Islands officers to find a missing person in Inverness last night," said a spokesperson for the force.

"PD Fergie tracked through woods and found her with the help of the local officers. She's now being helped by partner agencies."

It's the second time in just a week that one of the Inverness police dogs has won plaudits for their work, with Fergie's furry colleague Chief gaining praise earlier in January for sniffing out £15,000 worth of illegal drugs in the city.

That haul, which consisted of 2.5kg of cannabis, was sniffed out in the city's Seafield Road in the early hours of January 10.

Taking to their Facebook page at the time, the local force hailed Chief for his "magic nose", and warned dealers in the city that the plucky pooch is always "on the lookout for more"!

They said: "PD Chief does it again, the dog with a magic nose sniffs out 2.5 kgs of cannabis from a premises in Inverness."
