STRONG gales forced the closure of Fort George to visitors on Wednesday.

Historic Scotland took the decision to shutter the site to the public amid active flood alerts for the coast.

A Met Office yellow warning for wind gusts of up to 75mph was also in force at the time of the announcement, and is expected to remain in place until 1pm.

Confirming the temporary closure of Fort George, as well as two other Historic Scotland maintained sites, a spokesman said: It’s a fair bit breezy, and some of our sites will need to remain closed [on Wednesday]."
