Funeral date set for Inverness family man allegedly murdered at a house in Dalneigh

The funeral of a much-loved family man allegedly murdered in Inverness in November is to be held later this month.

Ross MacGillivray (36) died a short time after he was found with serious injuries at a property in St Ninian Drive in Dalneigh just after midnight on November 12.

Craig Hayden (28), from Alness, and Leon Headey (21), from Liverpool, have since appeared in court charged with his murder.

A funeral notice posted by John Fraser & Son undertakers reads: “Tragically on November 12, Ross Finlay MacGillivray, loving husband of Samantha (his little cricket), much-loved son of Donna and Dougie, amazing daddy to Cohen, Keira-Leigh, Nellie, Eli and Taylor, special brother of Douglas and Dylan, a beloved grandson and nephew.

“We love you to the moon, stars, Jupiter and Mars… and beyond.”

The funeral ceremony will be held at 11am on January 29 at Inverness Crematorium with the notice saying all are welcome to attend.

There is a request for family flowers only please, with donations to be made in memory of Mr MacGillivray for Highland Hospice.

After his death, moving tributes were paid by his family and members of the public.

A family statement issued by Police Scotland said: “Ross was a loving husband, a doting father, loved by his family and friends and all who met him.

"He will be especially missed but definitely not forgotten. We love you to the moon, the stars, Jupiter and Mars.”

On social media, a friend wrote: "Only the best and loveliest of memories of our younger years. Always a heart of gold and the kindest of souls. Thinking of your family at this devastating loss."

Another comment read: "Such a tragedy, my heart goes out to his family and friends – especially his poor wife and children who have had their husband and father so terribly stolen from their lives.

"I hope the community can come together at this devastating time to help and support them in any way possible."

A former schoolmate wrote: "That smile and laugh I will forever remember, our memories I will hold close forever.

"My love to your family and the kids that you adored so much. RIP my friend. Never forgotten, you'll live on in our hearts."
