An Inverness fundraiser has reached his £2500 target to help Fort William FC get new CCTV equipment following a spate of recent vandalism.
Billy Corbett, who has had a lifelong association with Clachnacuddin FC, originally set up an online appeal after he heard that the fellow Highland League club’s Claggan Park ground had been hit by the attacks.
A number of seats were damaged and parts of the newly-laid pitch lifted and taken away during the incidents.
Mr Corbett quickly passed his fundraising target which he hopes will help Fort William to improve surveillance.
He said: “After less than two weeks of fundraising, and well over 100 people making donations, I’m delighted to already have met my target.”
Mr Corbett previously raised more than £8000 for Clach after a fire destroyed a dressing room and kit room at the Inverness club’s ground and he said he was pleased with the latest response to help this “great wee club” out.
He added: “I’m grateful that so many people associated with Fort William have gone out of their way to thank me personally.”
These have included Fort William club treasurer Willie Edwards, Anne-Marie Dempster, former club chairman Peter Murphy; former player and manager Calum Maclean and present manager Ashley Hollyer.
He said Fort William FC were the friendliest club in the Highland League and always made Clach feel welcome.
