I was reading about The Brahan Seer the other day – the 17th- century Highland Nostradamus is said to have prophetic visions that came true including predicting the Battle of Culloden, the Caledonian Canal and the Scottish Parliament.

What would the Brahan Seer make of the current fiasco, also known as the Liz Truss government?

Well, I am no Brahan Seer, nor a betting man but if I were, these would be my predictions…

1. Liz Truss will set a new record as Britain’s shortest serving Prime Minister. The current record holder, if that is the correct term, is George Canning who was in power for just 119 days in 1827. In fairness to Prime Minister Canning, he passed away at the age of 57 so maybe I am not comparing like with like!

2. The Bank of England will increase interest rates three times over the next 12 months.

3. Liz Truss will not win the Nobel Prize for Economics!

4. The new Prime Minister will be… my crystal ball is a little cloudy here but I predict three Prime Ministers over the next two years: Jeremy Hunt, Rishi Sunak and Sir Keir Starmer.

5. At the next General Election in Scotland, the Tories will lose all their seats.

6. Finally… new chancellor Jeremy Hunt will ditch the state pensions triple lock which currently protects pensioners from the effects of inflation.

Mind you, would an early General Election not be better than using a crystal ball?
