THE A96 is closed in both directions near Balloch following a crash.

Traffic Scotland has confirmed the closure "in both directions" on its current incidents web page. The collision is understood to have occurred between Allanfearn and Tornagrain.

The crash, which police said occurred around 4.25pm, involved two vehicles.

Officers said that the injuries at the scene "do not appear to be life threatening" but that the road remained closed at the time of writing.

The collision came just 35 minutes after a collision in Ross-shire closed the A9 in both directions just north of the Cromarty Bridge.

That crash, between a lorry and car, has resulted in the closure of the road between the Ardullie roundabout and Evanton.

There was no immediate word on whether anyone was injured, but police were advising drivers to find alternate routes.
