All Highland train services – between Inverness and Wick, Thurso, Kyle of Lochalsh, Aberdeen, Perth, Edinburgh and Glasgow – remain cancelled as mass Network Rail safety checks begin

All train services to and from Inverness remain cancelled this morning with Network Rail beginning mass safety checks on rail tracks.
The track proving will ensure lines are safe after Storm Gerrit brought debris, fallen trees and flooding across the county.

Some limited rail replacement services are in operation, but travellers are advised to check directly with @transcotland @ScotRail @CalSleeper and @LNER.
Lines remaining closed include the Far North & Kyle Line, Aberdeen - Inverness and the Highland Mainline between Inverness and Perth.
A Network Rail spokesman said: “With Storm Gerrit now cleared away from Scotland, recovery and route proving will begin on impacted routes later this morning. T
“This takes place during daylight hours and will start shortly, once enough light is available for teams on the ground.
“We will update throughout today as our teams work across impacted routes.
“Once a line has been fully checked and is confirmed safe to reopen, we will do this right away, allowing services to resume as quickly as possible.”
