Major disruption is being experienced across rail services as the snow, high winds and heavy rain continue.

There will be no trains running north of Dundee or Perth for the rest of today, Wednesday, said ScotRail.

A spokesperson added this afternoon: "We're experiencing major disruption to services across our network due to severe weather today, particularly flooding.

"Trains are unable to run on a number of routes and replacement transport is extremely limited."

Stranded passengers were told that tickets dated for today (27 December) will be accepted for travel on 28 and 29 December.

"You don't need to do anything to take advantage of this, just travel as normal," said ScotRail.

"As always, if you have to travel during extreme weather, we recommend you check your journey before setting off."
