A KEY Inverness city centre road will be closed to traffic this weekend while resurfacing work is carried out.

Highland Council has warned motorists that most of Chapel Street and Academy Street as far south-east as Margaret Street will be shut from 8am to 8pm on Saturday and from 8am to 10pm on Sunday.

A small part of Friar's Lane, between its junction with Academy Street and Church Street, will also be closed for the works.

A section of Chapel Street between Glebe Street and the Shore Street Roundabout will be shut to southbound traffic, but will stay open for vehicles heading north.

A Highland Council spokesman said: "The closures are required to enable road resurfacing and associated works to safely proceed. The works are being carried out in advance of the reopening of non-essential retail.

"Access will be maintained for pedestrians, emergency vehicles, and vehicles employed to carry out the works.

"Alternative routes will be available for all other vehicles."
