ScotRail has announced the re-opening of some Highland rail services.

A massive track safety checking operation by Network Rail after Storm Gerrit had earlier today wiped out journeys on the Far North Line, to Kyle of Lochalsh, Aberdeen and the Highland Mainline route to Perth.

Local services will now begin again between Inverness and Elgin, Dingwall, Tain and Kyle of Lochalsh.

The service north of Dingwall to Thurso and Wick is not yet operational, nor is the service beyond Elgin and stations to Aberdeen.

Further updates on track proving are expected this afternoon.
