A SHOWCASE for new talent will see more than 90 young performers play in Lossiemouth this weekend.

Organisers of the two-day Wall of Rock Festival are looking forward to an action-packed weekend of live music over two stages.

The festival is being held at the Station Park in Lossiemouth's Pitgaveny Street tonight (Friday) and throughout tomorrow.

The event will see more than 26 young acts perform live. There will also be a number of stalls, a car boot sale, inflatables and refreshments.

Daniel Edwards, youth worker with Moray Council, said: "After the success of the first event in September last year, this year's event is running for five hours longer, with 10 more acts performing."

Five acts will perform tonight, when Soulcasino, from Keith, will top the bill, with support from young Forres band The Strives.

The five-piece Keith band were playing gigs throughout Scotland while most of them were still studying at Keith Grammar School.

'The Strives' have not long finished recording their first EP, which is due for an imminent release. Both bands have very promising musical careers ahead of them, and are causing a stir wherever they play.

The music gets underway from 5.30pm tonight (Friday) and will finish around 11pm.

Some 21 acts will perform over two stages tomorrow. The main stage will host a number of young rock and pop acts from across Moray, while the acoustic stage will have a greater emphasis on solo performers, showcasing new talent throughout the afternoon.

Tomorrow's entertainment will start at noon.

"We are very lucky to have attracted accomplished Moray bands such as Be Like Pablo from Forres, Team Kapowski, 3DR and Bittersuite," said Daniel. "Be Like Pablo have recently released a double A-side single that has been played on BBC Radio 1's 'Introducing' show."

The Wall of Rock Festival is a unique opportunity for Moray's up and coming young bands, he added. "Having 26 bands on the line-up is testament to the sheer number of talented young people we have on our doorstep," said Daniel.

Key partners in supporting and organising the festival include Lossie Youth Café; Lossie High School Parent Partnership; Moray Council; Moray Youth Council; Grampian Police; NHS Grampian and Cashback for Communities.

The festival is a free event. For more information, visit the website at www.thewallofrock.co.uk
