Summer Isles Festival announces award-winning line up

AN award-winning line up of talent is Loch Broom bound for this year’s Summer Isles Festival in August.
After two sell out successes, the festival returns for a third year again under the supervision of local musician Mairearad Green from Achiltibuie with 12 hours of entertainment from noon to midnight on Saturday 30th August.
The varied line up for 2014 includes new electro/techno band, Halcyon, featuring John Somerville, Barry Reid and Adam Sutherland. The three musicians, who are all originally from the Inverness area, are also members of the band Treacherous Orchestra.
Hunter & the Bear features local frontman Will Irvine and have been championed in Music Week as one of their unsigned bands of 2013, as well as being hotly tipped by BBC Radio 2 as "One To Watch" for 2014. They have been confirmed as main support for Eric Clapton on his UK Tour this year and they are now back in the studios recording their anticipated second EP due for release in the summer.
The line up is completed by the band Rura, the BBC Radio 2 Folk Award nominees and 2011 Scots Trad Up and Coming Artist of the Year, and innovative harpist Rachel Newton, who is also well known as a member of The Shee.
The annual ceilidh dance set will be led by the festival’s very own Mairearad Green, a former Scots Trad Awards Composer of The Year. Festival fringe daytime events will again include music workshops in the local piping school, sessions in Aschiltibuie Hall led by local musician Joseph Peach, art workshops from An Talla Solais throughout the day, and cookery demonstrations using local produce.
"It was amazing to see how the second year had built on the charming chaos of the first," Green commented.
"This year, with such an exciting line up and strong community support, I am already looking forward to what will be a brilliant event."
The evening concert and ceilidh dance will start at 5pm and, with a few short breaks, will run until midnight.
