Award-winning bagpipe rockers Red Hot Chilli Pipers return to the Ironworks, Inverness, with party tunes and covers of classic rock songs by Queen, Coldplay, Deep Purple, and more

INVERNESS revellers have one spicy winter warmer to look forward to, as the Red Hot Chilli Pipers announce their return to the north.

The gold-selling Scottish group return to the Ironworks for another festive gig on Friday, December 27.

And the musicians will be bringing along the typical rambunctious, rocking songbook with them.

Stuffing their set with rock and pop classics, city crowds will be able to jump along to screeching bagpipe-stuffed covers of Smoke on the Water, Clocks, and We Will Rock You.

The Celtic-rock 10-piece have become something of a household name since they were founded by Stuart Cassells in 2002 – the group combining traditional rock elements of guitar, bass and drums with more traditional sounds to create the sound they call “bagrock”.

Early success came when the band joined hard-rockers The Darkness on the main stage of T in the Park in 2004.

Since then the Chilli Pipers have gone on to release six studio albums and won an episode of BBC talent show When Will I Be Famous, walking away with £10,000 after seeing off competition from seven other acts.

The band have brought their Celtic rock sound across the world over the past 17 years – with tours across America, Germany, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia and India.

And their live show has won plaudits, with the band scooping two Scottish Live Act of the Year awards.
