Rappers' delight for Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival as hip hop legends The Sugarhill Gang head the latest raft of names

LEGENDARY American hip hop group The Sugarhill Gang lead the next wave of artists announced for Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival 2019.

Best known for releasing hip-hop’s first single to find mainstream success – Rapper’s Delight – the Gang joins the Highland festival lineup 40 years on from the release of the pioneering song.

Also added to the bill is one of the UK’s most exciting emerging singer-songwriters Maisie Peters. With more than three million monthly streams on Spotify, she is on course to be one of 2019’s breakthrough acts.

Making her Belladrum debut is Northern Irish artist Bridie Monds-Watson, better known by her stage name Soak. Her debut single Sea Creatures was released to critical acclaim in 2015 with her album Before We Forgot How To Dream winning the Irish Choice Music Prize Album of the Year.

Ivor Award winning singer-songwriter Scott Matthews will also take to the Grassroots stage over the weekend.

And leading the new wave of classic rock bands Stone Broken have been added to the bill and will join us fresh off the back of supporting Black Stone Cherry across Europe.

Rising Scottish star Be Charlotte will make a return to Belladrum – the Dundee-born singer/songwriter’s debut major label release Do Not Disturb came out earlier this month.

Other acts appearing over the weekend include: buzzy Glasgow 80s post-punk and new wave inspired band The Ninth Wave; Scottish psychedelic rock two-piece Man of Moon; Edinburgh indie-rock outfit Vistas; buzz act King Nun; Indigo Velvet will bring their tropical pop to the festival; dark bluesy rock n’ roll outfit Black Cat Bone; emerging Scottish artist Stephanie Cheape; and the Highlands’ own Dazed Digital Age.

Many more acts will be announced over the coming months, including the line-ups for The Trailer Trash (country stage), Ice House (jazz, blues, funk and soul stage), Mother’s Ruin (electronic stage), Free Range Folk Stage, Potting Shed Stage, amongst others.

Festival founder Joe Gibbs said: “We are over the moon with the response we have had of our line-up announced to date and with the addition of bona fide legends The Sugarhill Gang and some really exciting new talent, this is shaping up to be the strongest Bella to date.”

With over four months to go, Belladrum is down it it’s final 200 tickets and is expected to sell out within the next few days.
