An outstanding representative of the younger generation of Russian conductors, Maxim Emelyanychev took over as Principal Conductor of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra (SCO) in September 2019.

A talented conductor and solo keyboard artist, Maxim brings to the Scottish Chamber Orchestra a particular passion and expertise for the music of Baroque and Classical, developed with his Grammy award-winning ensemble Il Pomo D’Oro.

As a 2019 winner of the International Classical Music Award’s Solo Category, his command of keyboard instruments is yet another string to his impressive bow that will delight audiences in our new Season.

In his first official concert in the role as Principal Conductor, Maxim conducted Mozart’s Jupiter Symphony in November, alongside a performance of Prokofiev’s much-loved Second Violin Concerto, with German violinist Carolin Widmann who was also making her SCO debut.

Across the Season, Maxim takes opportunities to share his passion and expertise for period style performance, often directing from the harpsichord or piano.

In Baroque Dances with Maxim which comes to Aberdeen's Music Hall he presents a packed programme of beautiful and fun-filled French and German Baroque music

First stop is Germany, as Maxim directs Telemann’s musical depiction of Alster Lake near Hamburg – complete with cannon fire, echoes, birds, frogs and merry-making peasants.

Things then take on a distinctly French flavour with the JS Bach’s Suite No 4 – a set of dance pieces in the French Baroque style.

This in turn leads us very nicely to Versailles and the court of Louis XIV, for Jean-Baptiste Lully’s suite from his humorous opera-ballet Le Bourgeois gentilhomme.

Then, to finish, the imaginative and sensual music of Rameau’s Les Indes Galantes.

The performance takes place on Saturday, January 18 at the Music Hall, Aberdeen at 7.30pm with tickets from www.aberdeenperformingarts.com
