Monkey and Robot: In the Snow
By Felix Hayes
(Bloomsbury) £5.99
NOT a lot of people know that the author of this bright and breezy series is the voice of The Gruffalo in theatre productions.
Hayes has a bit of a children’s hit of his own on his hands here with the fourth in a picture book series featuring the adventures of the two unlikely best buddies.
Anyone who loves a bit of snow around this time of year (oh come on you miserable people!) will appreciate this 32-page charmer, which is aimed broadly at the broad 0-5 year-old market.
Monkey and Robot are very excited when it starts to snow. They cannot resist going out to explore and have fun. But when robot starts making a snowball under directions from monkey, it just gets bigger and bigger and bigger until before long it’s out of control…
Bright, boldly drawn characters and a simple storyline with a twist keep the younger reader hooked from first page to last. One suspects Monkey and Robot could be going on to have quite a few more adventures yet…
