Big Fish Little Fish Scotland are returning to Inverness with their popular award winning family raves for a Father’s Day special on Sunday, June 19.

The Pyjama Jam family rave will feature Charlie Wright, also the co-author of My First Book Of Drum & Bass and headline DJ, Mrs Magoo playing a set of drum n bass.

Charlie, a graphic designer at Dynam, created the book with his illustrator friend Gary Miller creating the visuals. Charlie explained the book project had come about after creating a successful Kickstarter campaign.

He said: “It was inspired a few years ago when our first child Sonny was born to me and my partner Ruth, we've since had another son Casper.

"But at that time it seemed all our friends were having children and we were looking for presents to buy for each other. Everyone buys teddies and babygros. But we were into drum & bass into our early adult years and we decided to create a children’s book about drum & bass and started a campaign to raise the money to get it off the ground.

“We say about the book that it is ‘An alphabetical adventure for little ravers and misbehavers’ and it is an introduction for kids, not a history, but more of an introduction to artists and DJs and producers.

"We’ve got old school DJs and new names coming through and it’s diverse with girls and boys. It crosses over and for adults there are in-jokes they will get!”

The book has already had a launch in London through the Big Fish Little Fish organisation there.

Charlie said: “Hannah who organised that said we should get in touch with BFLF’s Scotland manager Kirstie Wilson who does it in Inverness to see if we could do a local launch here!”

Kirstie Wilson said: “It was an instant match for us to collaborate with My First Book Of Drum & Bass. This is the first drum & bass event we’ve run in Inverness and I would fully encourage everyone new to our events to come and give it a try.

“Teeny toddlers absolutely love drum & bass, I think they really connect with the sounds and the basslines! I always see some great dancefloor moves when the drum & bass is on the go!"

Kirstie said: “I especially love to bring my events to Inverness, as my grandparents lived in the Black Isle and it’s always been an incredibly special place to me.”

Events feature free transfer tattoos, crafts and play doh tables for the kids, baby chill, bubbles, giant balloons, play tents and tunnels, giant colouring mural plus optional facepainting, licensed bar and cupcakes.

DJs play the same set they would play at 3am, Kirstie says, but more quietly.
