Bandstock debuts with midsummer city chillout vibe: The Side QnA
Check out some QnAs with the musicians on the Bandstock line-up, kicking off with headliners The Side.
The Side
The band originally got together in 2005, with some line-up changes and landmarks over the years – including opening for Bon Jovi in front of 23,000 people in The O2 Arena in London. They recently returned to the Cavern Club in Liverpool during a series of dates.
Q What has the band been up to so far this year – edited highlights at least for the Bandstock audience coming along next Sunday to the Beaufort Hotel for this new event?
A We've done a couple festivals down in England – March of the Mods in Tamworth and IPO at the Cavern Club, Liverpool. Supporting Toploader at the Strathpeffer Pavilion was another highlight recently.
Q What are the biggest challenges for you in music this year so far – has anything made you change or adapt your original plans for what you wanted to achieve?
A We had originally planned to go into the studio early this year to do a single. But we decided to do it later, as we're going to hopefully do an EP instead. Badger (our bass player) has recently just got a new van, so that's going to be a lot easier for gigs further away, as we've struggled for transport sometimes for them.
Q Tell us about your music and what keeps it exciting for you and what gets you being creative and pushing yourselves) forward?
A I'd say we're a blend of Ocean Colour Scene, Crowded House, Madness, Manu Chao and the Stone Roses. We've been about a fair while now, but the old songs still sound fresh live. It's great travelling away to different places and seeing the way the tunes go down with new crowds. We've been adding in some new ones lately and the odd cover or two as well. I've got a studio set up at home now, so it's really given me a push to get ideas finished off. I've been working on a lot of demo's. We might put some of them out soon, then the proper EP later in the year.
