Caley Thistle boss John Hughes is hoping to cast his eye over more trialists as he looks to bolster his ranks with a striker and a right back.

ICT manager John Hughes hopes to run the rule over more potential signings in coming friendlies as he continues his hunt for a striker and a right back.

The Caley Jags resumed their pre-season programme last night at Highland League side Forres Mechanics (after we went to press), and are set to travel to Elgin City on Saturday as they step up their preparations for next season.

Hughes hopes to cast his eye over more trialists, but also insists the onus is on getting game time and match sharpness for his players, as well as trying out one or two positional tweaks.

He said: "I’d like to think there’ll be another couple of trialists to run the rule over.

"Going into pre-season what we did was take two or three young kids and had two teams for the Clach game. What we’ll do now is try to get more people 90 minutes and get them good game time. We want to see Marley Watkins play up front. He had a couple of games there at the end of last season and I’d like to see Josh Meekings have a shot at right back. He’ll play 90 minutes, half at centre-half and half at right back.

"We’re very adaptable, but we could do with cover at right back and centre forward."

The Highland capital side will be looking to build on last week’s victory at Grant Street, where goals from Danny Williams, Graeme Shinnie and a Gordie Morrison own goal along with Ayina’s strike accounted for the home side.

Hughes singled out Liam Polworth for special praise.

He said: "He’s got a great range of passing. He’s come back fitter than he’s ever been and I think that’ll help him in his quest to try and get that first team jersey."
