THE Rugby World Cup trophy arrives in the Highland Capital this weekend as part of its tour of Scotland.

The Webb Ellis Trophy will be in the Highland RFC clubhouse at Canal Park from 9am on Sunday, until 11am.

The club’s Mini and Micro training sessions and an S1 and S2 tournament will also be taking place on Sunday.

Land Rover will also unveil their mascot programme, with a chance for some lucky youngster to be selected as a mascot at one of Scotland’s World Cup matches. Visit the Land Rover stand to find out more or search on Facebook if you can’t make it.

With Land Rover will be one of their rugby ambassadors, Scottish international Chris Paterson.

There will be a reception in the clubhouse. This will be a fun day for the family and everyone is welcome to come along.

Last weekend Highland played hosts to a group of rugby tourists from one of Inverness’s twin cities, La Baule. The French travellers arrived in Inverness on Thursday evening after a 25-hour coach trip. On Friday they visited Tomatin distillery and the Great Glen around Drumnadrochit, with the day ending with a civic reception in the Town House.

The rugby part of the tour came on Saturday with a seniors touch match followed by a full 1st XV friendly match, won by the hosts with. The day ended with a party in the clubhouse.

After such a busy three days, the tourists left early on Sunday for the long drive home and arrived back on Monday.

This was a thoroughly entertaining event for both hosts and tourists and cements the friendship that now exists between both cities and clubs.
