LIAM Boyce insists international football can wait – because he knows that firing goals for Ross County will open the door to a Northern Ireland recall.

The 25-year-old forward, whose campaign last season was hampered by long spells on the sidelines due to injuries, still managed 20 goals, but went through a spell with just one goal in 17 appearances.

Any 20-goal-plus forward is clearly an asset to any side and, while fellow forwards Brian Graham, Alex Schalk and Craig Curran all netted in the weekend’s 7-0 rout of Cove Rangers in the Betfred Cup at the weekend, Boyce’s head is still up.

Boyce just missed out on selection for his country at the Euro Finals in France this summer, but Northern Ireland boss Michael O’Neill has explained that he will be contention for the World Cup qualifiers.

For Boyce, it’s one step at a time.

Speaking ahead of their Ladbrokes Premiership opener at home to Dundee on Saturday, told the North Star: "It’s brilliant to be talked about in that sort of level of football. I need to firstly focus on doing well at club level and international football would then be a bonus for that."
