Inverness Caledonian Thistle are now seven games without a win in the Championship as they fell to defeat against Morton.

Lewis Strapp's goal midway through the first half proved to be the difference as the visitors returned to Greenock with all three points.

Inverness missed the chance to leapfrog Kilmarnock into second place after they lost 1–0 to league leaders Arbroath on Friday night.

Billy Mckay returned from injury for Inver which kept him out for the previous two matches and Austin Samuels also made his first start forInverness.

Cameron Harper went to the bench with Tom Walsh out of the squad.

Sam Pearson had the first real chance of the match as he charged from the left wing into the box and forced a fine save from Jack Hamilton.

But Morton went front as Cameron Blues plays a dink in from the left wing to find Strapp who charges into the box and fires a low drive past Mark Ridgers.

Inverness had chances to get back in the game in the first half, the closest when Austin Samuels’ crossed into the six-yard box and Shane Sutherland failed to connect when his foot was inches away from guiding the ball into the net.

Sutherland came close to levelling for Inverness midway through the second half when his header was cleared from the line by Brian McLean.

Joe Hardy came close to levelling for Inverness in the closing stages when he saw his shot go wide of the right post.

But Inverness rarely threatened to equalise after the break as Morton absorbed the pressure to pick up victory.

Gozie Ugwu had a golden chance to make it 2–0 Morton in the closing stages when he was unchallenged in the six-yard box but Ridgers pulled off a great save.

Inverness will look to end their winless streak when they face Partick on Wednesday night.
