Knox (26), who spent four years at Jacksonville College, stayed on in America to turn professional and play on the Hooters tour where he came third in the money winner's list last season, but won no trophies as this tour only hand out money prizes.

He graduated to the Nationwide Tour at the beginning of this year and after finishing second in his first event, won enough money to secure his place on this tour, which ranks just one below the full USPGA Tour.

Next year, his entry could be accepted and this would allow Knox to play in front of home supporters after a brilliant 25 under par total of 263 won the Nationwide Tour Chiquita Classic in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Knox's winning cheque of $99,000 - the biggest of his career - is added to the $70,947 he has already won from eight previous tour events since April.

It now means he is in a position to win a place on the full USPGA Tour next season as the leading 25 money winners at the end of the season will gain their cards without going to the tour qualifying school.

This latest success brings Knox full exempt status on the Nationwide Tour for the remainder of this year and all of 2012. It has also moved him from number 27 to five on the money list.
