HIGHLAND Wildcats have four weeks to transform their season after suffering their fourth consecutive defeat.

The city club are second-bottom of BAFA North Division Two and the mid-point of the campaign following a 43-0 home loss against Clyde Valley Blackhawks.

Their next four games are all away from home, starting with second-placed Dundee Hurricanes on Sunday 3rd July.

“The next four weeks will make or break our season,” said head coach Brian MacRae.

“Our run of form is poor, but we have three practices to pick ourselves up and make it right.

“Dundee will be tough and we then face league leaders West Coast Trojans a week after that, so we know it will be hard to turn this around.

“We have to become a collective unit again and try to sort this out now.”

Clyde Valley took the initiative early with two quickfire touchdowns that were both converted to lead 14-0 at the end of the first quarter, although the Wildcats did have the chance to put themselves on the scoresheet through Martin Devlin’s field goal, but his attempt was blocked.

Two extra points were added swiftly at the start of the second quarter when a Wildcats punt was charged down in their own end zone. Another touchdown followed, but the conversion attempt failed, making it 22-0 at half-time to the Blackhawks.

The Wildcats defense stood firm throughout the third quarter, yet the offense could not click into gear in a bid to reduce the arrears.

Frustration caused penalties as the Wildcats tried to recover, but two fourth quarter touchdowns from the visitors piled on the pain for the hosts.

Individual highlights included fumble recoveries from Billy Mill, Euan Rennie and Andy Dixon. Defensive back Stephen Nelson won the Wildcats man of the match award for his consistency in a hard-hitting display.
