Duncan Ferguson acknowledged that Inverness Caledonian Thistle were missing the final touch that could have earned them a win against Airdrieonians.

The Caley Jags played some nice football without particularly threatening Josh Rae's goal in the Highland capital – although Kanayo Megwa was needed in the second half to clear a Billy Mckay header off the line.

With an extremely congested Championship table after the weekend's results, Inverness remain second bottom, although a single goal could have seen them rise as high as sixth.

Ferguson, though, refused to be critical of his side, believing they gave 100 per cent effort and that on another day three points would have been in the bag.

"No one could question our effort," Ferguson stressed.

"The boys pushed and pushed. We were the better team by a distance but never created that clear cut chance to take it.

"We had a couple of moments flashed across the box and we had cut-backs and we never had someone on the end of one, especially in the first half, and in the second half Wallace Duffy gets in and we had one cleared off the line from Billy Mckay.

"We played really well, but just struggled with the final pass. When we did get one through from Sammy Lawal to Aribim Pepple, he was just on his heels. Sammy showed a bit of quality.

"I thought we were excellent and it was a completely different performance to Morton last week when we couldn't string two passes together, yet we got three points.

"We worked on the passing in training. Against Partick, they scored three and we scored three, but today we have tightened things up and we have three clean sheets in a row.

"Cammy Kerr was outstanding in the middle of the park and Sammy was great in his first game in a long time. Our defensive line was very good but we just never got on the end of some balls. We had a lot of corners and wide free-kicks.

"They kept fouling our counter-attacks. I was going crazy on the touchline. Every time we counter attacked, they fouled our players but never got booked, but it was a good performance."
