Ross County today plugged a defensive gap by signing Welsh giant Ryan Leak from Salford City.

The 6ft 3ins left centre-back will help fill the space left by the summer departures of Alex Iacovitti and Keith Watson.

Having spent his formative years in Wolves’ youth academy, starring for Wales under 17s, Leak had loan spells at the New Saints, Telford United and Spanish second division side Jumilla, before joining their league rivals Burgos permanently in 2019.

After two seasons and 25 games for Burgos, he returned to the UK with Burton Albion in summer 2021, making 22 appearances, before last season’s switch to Salford.

At Salford, he played more than 40 times, scoring twice, with Staggies boss Malky Mackay clearly confident he has added a quality option at the back.

Mackay said: “I’m delighted Ryan has decided to join Ross County.

“At 25, he is a terrific age to join the club and has experience abroad and domestically, which we hope to add to in the SPFL.

“We have had to be patient to add some experience on the left-hand side of defence, but are delighted to be able to do that with Ryan.”

Ross County have not disclosed the length of contract agreed by Leak.
