We’ve dug play-off dream out of a hole, says Inverness Caley Thistle defender

Robbie Deas believes that Inverness Caledonian Thistle have given themselves every chance of reaching the play-offs – and says their turnaround in recent weeks is more evidence, if it was needed, of how competitive the Scottish Championship is.

A 2-0 victory at home over Arbroath on Tuesday night saw Inverness reduce the gap to the top four to just two points, with a game still to come at the end of the season against Ayr United one place above them.

Caley Thistle are currently the form side in the division, with five wins from their last six league matches as well as four victories in-a-row in the Highland capital across all competitions.

It was not too long ago that many saw Inverness as, at best, an outside contender to be in the promotion mix after 36 games – but their latest run has ICT right back in the mix.

While it has been a significant effort to get back to this point, though, the job is not done yet.

Inverness may have scored 10 league goals against next opponents Cove Rangers at home this season, it was an altogether trickier task at the Balmoral Stadium where they only narrowly won 1-0.

Deas, then, thinks they have to rise to the occasion once more this weekend.

“That’s the Scottish Championship for you,” Deas reasoned.

“Every season is exciting, and as much as we obviously wanted to win the league and get promoted, this is the situation we’re in.

“We’ve dug ourselves out and given us a chance, which is really important because a few weeks ago a lot of people had written us off.

“The most important thing now is the next game, which is Cove. We’ve played them three times already this season, and they’ve got some very good players. It’s a horrible place to go too, so we’ll do what we’ve got to do.

“The pitch is obviously a factor, and they’ve got some very good individual players.

“It’s quite open, and the last time we were there it was windy which made it difficult.

“We ground out a 1-0 win, and we’ve had a few games like that this season, but they’re fighting for their lives at the bottom of the league now just like we’re fighting for the play-offs.

“It’s two teams that will be desperate for the three points, and the Championship is just one of those leagues that is full of excitement.”
