Mackay Cup Final

Tomnacross 4

Rockfield 2

TOMNACROSS were crowned the best primary school shinty team in Scotland after they defeated Rockfield 4-2 at Bught Park.

The Kiltarlity school ended a 21-year wait to lift the trophy as they defeated their opponents from Oban on Saturday morning.

Tomnacross co-coach Fiona Urquhart says it was a superb performance from the kids who deserved their victory .

"Everyone from the club and school have been supportive, the community have been behind us and kids have been buzzing all week.

"We got the school team going in April last year, we got a good cup run last year and this year we won it."

Shinty was reestablished at Tomnacross Primary School last year after 14 years abeyance and Urquhart says the sport has proved popular with the kids.

"We get 18 kids every Tuesday for training, the club have two girls teams under-12 team and under-14 team and loads of kids training every week.

"They are so nice, they are a good bunch of kids and i'm just really proud."
