HIGHLAND’S future still remains unclear as they still await a result that could determine if the Greens are to be automatically relegated from Caledonia Regional League Division One.

Ellon’s narrow 22-20 win over Caithness on Saturday was not the result Highland wanted, dropping them from eighth to ninth in the table.

But with Hillfoots, who currently occupy the automatic relegation spot at the foot of the division, still to fulfil their final fixture at Orkney, the Greens continue to play a waiting game.

As it stands, the ninth place side will have to contest a play-off, although it could still be the case that this position will mean demotion as well.

However, this is dependent upon how many regional teams come down from the national set-up., which could then result in the eight placed team in Caledonia Regional League Division One contesting a play-off.

Meanwhile, Highland under-17s were in action at Canal Park on Sunday when they took on a touring side from Crawley Rugby Club.

The home side took the opportunity to give some of their fringe players a chance to shine, while also blooding some of under-16s to give them experience at this level.

The heavy conditions underfoot were adapted to quicker by Highland with Blair Lockwood and Johnny Grant going over for tries, while Rory Carson kicked a drop goal.

Crawley hit back with a score between the posts to see Highland’s lead cut to 15-7, but the hosts got back on top and before the break Callum Carson supplied two tries to leave the half-time score at 29-7.

In the second half, Iain Crush displayed a fine bit of individual skill by collecting his own chip kick to score under the posts for 36-7.

The visitors, however, kept their composure and scored a deserved converted try to make it 36-14, but the final say was to belong to Highland, Hamish Hepburn managing an unconverted try to make the final score 41-14.

HIGHLAND had a 12-hour sponsored touch rugby event on Saturday in order to raise money for club funds.

The day started with the S1 squad, before progressing through the age group squads until reaching the under-18’s, seniors and over-35’s.
