VIDEO – Millburn Academy pupil storms to victory in River Ness 5k in Inverness

Lois Macrae proved too good for the chasing pack as she claimed victory in the River Ness 5k.

The Millburn Academy pupil took gold with a personal best time of 17 minutes and 58 seconds.

Macrae (13) beat her previous personal best by 72 seconds to claim victory in Inverness on Sunday afternoon.

She was pleased with how she performed on the day.

She said: “I pulled away from other girls so I tried to hang on with some of the boys to get a fast time.

"I’m really pleased with the time as it’s an improvement of one minute and 12 seconds on my previous best.”

This victory on home territory capped a fantastic summer season for the youngster who won 1500m track titles in the Scottish schools and Scottish national championships.

Jessica Needs (Peterhead AC) was second while Rhian Birnie (Young Meldrum Runners) took third spot.
