Camanachd Cup final

Kingussie 3

Lovat 1

KINGUSSIE goal hero Roddy Young says winning the Camanachd Cup on his home ground was the best moment of his career.

Kingussie won the trophy for the 24th time as two late goals secured victory against Lovat.

Over 3000 people were packed into The Dell to watch Kingussie lift the trophy in their own village.

Savio Genini gave Kingussie the lead in the first half, but Lovat drew level midway through the second half through Calum Macaulay.

But James Falconer and Young both scored in the final five minutes to give Kingussie the title.

Young says it was a special feeling to win the trophy at The Dell.

"There was a lot of work that went into today, it was a tough game, but we got three, they got one and that is how it ended.

"Lovat are one of the best teams in the league, on their day they will challenge anyone. But we managed to pull away in the end.

"I thought my goal had gone over so I was delighted when it went in, I tried to get contact and there is no better feeling scoring than in a Scottish Cup final.

"This is my first Scottish Cup medal, so to get it at the first attempt is special."

Kingussie have already won the MacTavish Cup and Macaulay Cup and are favourites to win the Premiership to complete a grand slam of all four senior trophies in one season.

Young admitted that is the target now.

"We now focus on next Saturday, take it game by game and by the end of the season we could have a grand slam.

"You set up every year with that in mind, it is unbelievably hard to achieve. You always have expectations and reality checks on the way.

"We have four huge games to close that out and see if it happens."
