An electrical fault reported from a tumble dryer within the club's home dressing room and kit store at Grant Street Park resulted in a fire breaking out at 9.30am on Tuesday.

The fire has reported to have caused major damage to the dressing rooms and boardroom.

Four appliances were sent to the scene and stood down at 10.40am.

The club have released a statement saying the fire has caused major damage at the Merkinch club.

It said: "Around 9.30am this morning, club officials were informed of a report of a small fire within our main football club building.

"On arrival club officials were greeted with a scene of a much more significant scale.

"What appears to have been an electrical fault within our home changing area and kit store caused a major and dangerous fire which has caused catastrophic damage within our club."

"Firstly we would like to pass on our deepest gratitude to the officers from Scottish Fire and Rescue Service for their swift and professional actions which prevented a much more severe outcome.

"Secondly we are extremely grateful that nobody was hurt or involved in what could have developed into an extremely dangerous situation."

Clachnacuddin's scheduled game against Formartine United in the Highland League on Saturday is expected to be called off but no official confirmation has been made.

The club say they face a major refurbishment project to fix the damage.

They said: "The club have been in contact with the SHFL and will continue to keep them updated on what will now become a major repair and refurbishment project.

"The club will now be in contact with the various bodies and organisations who will be involved in this major project.

"This is a huge setback for our club.

"But we will be back on our feet in no time and will continue to ensure that the club continues as a cornerstone of the community and football in Inverness and the Highlands."
