HIGHLAND’S under-18 side emerged victorious in the Caledonia Bowl with a 36-10 victory over Ellon.

The juniors went with three teams to the finals in St Andrews on Sunday, with the under-16’s up against Perthshire in the Caledonia Cup and the under-15’s against Stirling in the same competition.

Ultimately it was only the under-18’s who came away victorious, capping a magnificent season by overcoming a stuffy Ellon side, despite being 10-0 down 15 minutes into the game.

A hat-trick of tries from Iain Crush proved decisive in a victory that comes after they finished runner-up in the National League to Currie on points difference, as well as narrowly going down in the National Cup final to Jed Thistle.

The under-16’s put up a good show against Perthshire and the game was very much in the balance at half-time with Highland only 10-5 down. However, Perthshire pulled away after the interval to pick up a 24-5 win.

The under-15’s came up against a very good Stirling side and despite never giving up were well beaten 37-0.

This squad is the largest in the club and with more games against high quality opposition next season, big things are expected of them.

This brings an end to the youth rugby season at Highland, apart from the tour to Gothenburg for the under-15 and under-16 squads in June, who will be accompanied by a squad of veterans.
