Inverness Harriers hammer thrower Matt MacFarlane has been recognised for his achievements in athletics after he received a national award.

The Westhill athlete picked up the Alan Bertram Trophy for his excellence and commitment in the event at Saturday’s Throw Grand Prix in Livingston.

The trophy marked double success for the 16-year-old last weekend as he recorded his fifth personal best of the season when he threw 52.91 metres.

The award is decided across the summer among the leading Scottish junior hammer throwers and MacFarlane’s other achievements include wins in the National and the Scottish Schools under-17 championships and selection for three internationals at under-17 and under-18 levels.
