ROSS County ran out 4-0 winners at Highland League side Rothes on Tuesday night, with a late goal flurry adding gloss to the scoreline.

This was a good exercise for Staggies manager Derek Adams, who had another look at four of the six trialists at the club.

At the weekend, all six trialists featured in a 2-1 defeat at Wick Academy in what was County's first run-out of the summer.

All the players looking to win deals are defenders, with this area of the squad particularly thin on the ground after the departures of Ben Gordon and Brian McLean.

It was a trialist who shot County in front in the first half with a smart volley from a Scott Boyd cross.

Rothes gave a good account of themselves and it took until the last 20 minutes, and the introduction of captain Richard Brittain, for the goals to flow freely.

With 20 minutes to go, Melvin de Leeuw played a neat ball to Brittain, who rounded keeper Derek Ramsay to score.

A classy dribbling run from Brittain four minutes from time ended with a fine finish to make the scoreline 3-0.

Moments later, Jake Jervis, who also came off the bench, netted his first County goal since arriving last month when he poked the ball home from close range after a surging run from Rocco Quinn.
