SEVERAL trialists were given their chance to impress Caley Thistle boss Terry Butcher in Monday's 2-0 friendly win at Highland League neighbours Clach.

The only new signing to feature at Grant Street was midfielder Greg Tansey, a summer capture from Stockport County because Gregory Tade and Tom Aldred were carrying knocks.

Goals from Shane Sutherland and Graeme Shinnie gave the SPL club the victory against a hard-working Clach team, whose new keeper Stevie Dunn was in inspired form.

Butcher, who also revealed his interest in Accrington Stanley's 21-year-old striker Terry Gornell, was delighted what what he saw from those on Monday who are aiming to net contracts.

Pick of the bunch was former Arsenal right-back Kerrea Gilbert, 24, who has played for the Gunners in the Champions League, while former Dundee attacking midfielder Andrew Shinnie, 21, Graeme's brother, also looked sharp.

Former Ipswich Town defender Josh Meekings, ex-Falkirk keeper Michael Andrews, 21, and Jamie Stevenson, 26, formerly of Real Mallorca B, Alloa and Airdrie, are also on trial at ICT, along with French midfielder Jean-Francois Christophe, 24, who has played at Portsmouth, Southend United and Oldham.

A few more trialists will be added to the Caley Thistle squad to face Highland League opponents Forres Mechanics on Wednesday night and Elgin City on Saturday.

Saturday will also see the return from injury of winger Jonny Hayes, but Lee Cox will be missing with a hip injury.
