Billy Dodds says he will only know whether to brand Caley Thistle’s preparations over a busy week a success or a failure after tonight’s game against Kilmarnock.

Squad management has been needed over the last six days to keep players in prime condition ahead of a top of the table clash at the Caledonian Stadium.

Several changes were made for Tuesday’s SPFL Trust Trophy tie against Raith Rovers in particular, but Dodds feels he will not be able to gauge whether that was worth it until the full time whistle blows tonight.

“I felt the players who came in, along with the first team boys who I had to use more than I wanted to, gave me everything,” he said.

“That’s whether you were an experienced player, someone playing regularly or missing out on the team lately.

“Hopefully we freshened the team up and there have been some boys who have given me a choice to make.

“Hopefully those I took off as substitutions will be ready for Kilmarnock.

“I think I’ve done the right thing, and I was pleased with the way it went, so only time will tell.”

ICT have no new injury concerns to contend with, and will be able to focus all their energy on returning to the top of the Championship table with three points tonight – even if Dodds refuses to look much further ahead than that.

“It would be even better if we’re top at Christmas, and even better than that if we’re there at the end of the season, but anybody who looks too far forward in this game are off their heads,” he added.

“If you start floating your mind ahead to May or June, you are not thinking straight. You need to keep focused and win big games. Kilmarnock is a big game.”
