Ross Tokely has committed his future to Nairn County after extending his Highland League comeback until at least the end of the 2023/24 season.

The 43-year-old initially joined the Station Park outfit on a short-term deal in October, having previously come out of retirement to play for St Duthus in the North Caledonian League.

He has since become a key performer for the Wee County, including scoring a phenomenal effort from long-range in the 3–0 win over Banks O'Dee last weekend, and securing his future could prove to be a key piece of Steven Mackay's plans for next season.

The manager said: "Since Ross has joined us, his impact on the team has been profound. We always knew that his experience would be a huge asset to us and a few eyebrows were raised when we signed him but we were confident that he would have a positive impact on the team.

"The younger players are loving playing alongside him and learning from him.

"We are delighted to secure him for another year and even though he will be 44 years old, he is showing week in, week out that age is just a number and he deserves a huge amount of credit for that."

Tokely does have history in the Highland League, as after a club record 589 appearances for Inverness Caledonian Thistle and a brief stint at Ross County he would join Brora Rangers.

At Dudgeon Park, he became a two-time league champion and two-time North of Scotland Cup winner as a player, before winning another two trophies in the same cup competition as Cattachs manager.

Although just eight appearances in to life at Nairn, with the club's recent resurgence up the league table under new manager Steven Mackay Tokely may well have eyes on adding more silverware to his cabinet.
