Thomson brothers win Inverness Division Two championship

Brothers Graeme and Brian Thomson gave their rink the Inverness Division Two Super League title from the final round of play.

With their lead player Jim Brown and second player Gary McAra the Thomson brothers skipped by Graeme Thomson went into their final round tie against Andy Wood two points behind the league

leader Andy Wood.

There was only one shot of a difference between them through six ends and beginning the seventh end Wood held last stone to draw and out count a Thomson shot stone for a peeled result and the

title.

It was an ounce to heavy and a measure for shot stone was called which on a millimete of length went in Thomson's favour to win the game 5-3 and the 2 points left both skips with12 points.

On ends won during the seven game season Thomson went top of the league with 31 ends to Wood's 29.

It two other vital ties for play-off positions both Innes Rankin and Richard Mackenzie won their games, Rankin a 6-4 winner over Sandy Renfrew to hold onto third place and Mackenzie a 10-6

win over the Ian Thorburn rink which was skipped by Tom Owen.

In the fourth game played Keith Petrie move up to fifth place finish with a late rally six shots over the last three ends to win 7-5 against Jamie Cattell.

The Play off semi-finals next week feature Thomson against Mackenzie and Wood plays Rankin.
