SWEDE Alexander Noren has the mid-afternoon lead at the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open.

In mild and dry conditions for the second round showdowns at Castle Stuart near Inverness, he has finished at 12 under par, that's one shot ahead of Argentina's Ricardo Gonzalez, who is also at the halfway stage of the competition.

Overnight leader Francesco Molinari remains on 10 under after his opening day record-equaliing start and shares that joint third spot with SSP Chowrasia from India.

A host of starts follow on nine under par, including German Martin Kaymer and Ireland's Peter Lawrie.

Aberdeen's Paul Lawrie looks set to miss the cut, his two under par is two shots short of the projected cut at this stage.

Title holder and world number one Luke Donald sits five pace-setter Noren, who finished with a birdrie.
