Success for Moray athletes in North Cross Country League

Moray Road Runners celebrated double success as James Wilson and Gemma Cormack were crowned North Cross Country League champions for the 2023/24 season.

Wilson claimed victory in the final race of the season at Nairn last weekend to wrap up the overall championship.

He won the final race in Nairn with a winning time of 27 minutes and 37 seconds.

He was eight seconds ahead of Gordon Lennox of East Sutherland Athletics Club in second place who cross the line in 27.45.

Ben Livesey of Moray Road Runners took the final place on the podium as he came home in third place with a time of 28.29.

Wilson’s victory in Nairn meant he secured the overall championship with 299 points.

Javi Cabrera of Highland Hill Runners was second overall with 287 points with Colin McRae of Moray Road Runners third with 278 points.

Cormack secured the overall women’s title 299 points, one point ahead of fellow Moray Road Runners athlete Katie Anderson who finished on 298 and Helen Leigh of Highland Hill Runners who finished on 297.

Leigh claimed victory in the final race of the season at Nairn last weekend when she finished first in a time of 32.38.

Cormack was in second place at Nairn as she finished in a time of 32.41 which earned her enough points to give her the overall title.

Kate Mactear of Inverness Harriers finished in third place in the final race of the season when she came home in a time of 32.45.
