HIGHLAND have been preparing for the visit of Orkney on Saturday and are looking to put out one of their strongest sides of the season to take on the title favourites.

Despite the poor weather conditions the squad has been working hard at training and has been bolstered by a large number of players returning from long-term injury. The players have also had to stay focused on their preparations despite the possibility of the worsening weather postponing the fixture. Ferry sailings in the north are under threat of cancellation which would prevent the islanders from travelling.

A full-strength pack will be available with the options of the return of Stephen Murray and Kenny Cameron that would add weight, strength and experience. The big news is the return of the back line to near full strength. Winger Craig Findlater and full-back Richard Sim coming in is a huge boost and their pace will give the visitors a lot to worry about. In the centre, Rory Cross also returns and his presence in the midfield will solidify the entire back line in attack and defence.

This match is important for both sides and they are equally keen to get the fixture played to prevent further extension of the league season. Highland really need a win to stay in touch with the race for the play-offs while Orkney will want the same win to maintain the challenge for the title and uncontested promotion.

The 2nd XV have a home fixture that for once seems set to go ahead as Mackie Academy have confirmed. This will be a great opportunity for the extended senior pool to get some match time. It will also be handy for those players still coming back from injury. Coaches Alastair McKenzie and James Hay will be happy to see such a good start to 2015, a game and a win.

The under-18s are ready for their last league game of the season as they take on Boroughmuir at Canal Park. Highland already sit top of the National Youth League and a win will ensure that the only side that can catch them will be Currie who will need to win their last three games for that to happen. Coach John Carson and his coaching staff have gotten their players to perform to a very high standard and a win on Saturday would round off the season nicely.

The rest of the junior sides are not in action yet the Mini and Micro sections return to their normal Sunday 11am sessions.
