New Clach signing David Watson looks to get ahead of ICT's Greg Tansey and trialist John Christophe Ayina in the Lilies' 4-0 friendly defeat at Grant Street Park.

CLACH boss Iain Polworth is hoping to run the rule over more trialists as he steps up his striker search ahead of next Wednesday’s friendly clash with Elgin City.

The Lilywhites manager boosted his ranks with the signings of ex-Nairn County midfielder David Watson and former ICT youngster David Chambers after both impressed on trial in last Wednesday’s 4-0 friendly defeat to Caley Thistle.

But after losing forward Scott Graham to Brora Rangers, Polworth insists recruiting attacking reinforcements remains a priority.

He said: "We’ve nothing yet but we’re looking to strengthen.

"We’ll see what comes our way, hopefully we’ll get a few trialists involved (at Elgin)."

Last season new man Watson was signed with Les Fridge’s Nairn County, but work commitments meant he didn’t see much football at Station Park.

Now his circumstances have changed and Polworth reckons both he and Chambers will add quality and energy to his side.

He said: "His situation has changed so hopefully he should be available to us most of the time.

"They’ll give us good quality on the ball and a lot of enthusiasm and energy.

"Those two players signed after the game, they’ve been training with us and have been in and around the squad so it was good to get them signed."

Ex-Ross County youngster Calum MacDonald also featured against the Caley Jags, and Polworth is still awaiting a decision from the defender.

He said: "There’s an offer on the table for him but there’s a possibility that he could be going off to university. I’m sure if he did move away he’d get himself another club down the road no problem at all."

Reflecting on the Caley Thistle clash, in which his son Liam starred in central midfield for the visitors, Polworth felt his side looked fit but lacked composure in possession.

He said: "These games are all about fitness and our fitness wasn’t too bad.

"I think we need to be a bit more careful with the ball because in games like that you’re not going to get as many chances with it so you have to make the most of it when you have the ball."
