Billy Mckay believes momentum is building at Inverness Caledonian Thistle after last weekend’s 0-0 draw with Airdrieonians took them to five matches unbeaten.

It is the longest run of any Championship side without defeat, although the Caley Jags have had four draws in that time.

Still, form counts for a lot at the business end of the season, and Inverness are showing a resilience that makes them difficult for opposition sides to break down.

“I think the momentum is building,” Mckay reasoned.

“If you look at those five games, I think we’ve been the better team in every game. It’s fine margins and that’s the difference at the minute between being where we are and fighting for the play-offs.

“We’re building something. You can see what we’re trying to do, it’s just about taking that next step.

“A couple of weeks ago we were scoring but conceding too many, and now we’re keeping clean sheets and not putting the ball in the net. We have to take chances, and I believe that we can do that.

“We’ve got good attacking players on the pitch and in the squad, so I believe we can climb up the league by getting those wins.”

ICT are now eight points clear of last-placed Arbroath, and six points away from the promotion play-off places.

Mckay, though, will not think about Caley Thistle’s chances of keeping their promotion dream alive until they are clear of any relegation danger.

“To be honest, I’m not looking that far ahead,” he added.

“First and foremost for me, we have to get away from the relegation play-off. That’s got to be the whole team’s first aim.

“If we get those next couple of wins to get away from danger, then we can re-evaluate and see if we’re close enough.

“For me, the first thought is to get up the league.”
